My name is Laurenne Ross. I was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and have been an Oregonian for over 25 years. I grew up in the mountains: skiing, exploring, and marveling at their beauty. When I began racing at age 6, I had an experience that transformed me for the rest of my life -- speeding down the hill, dashing between the trees, mesmerized by the snow flurrying and wind in my face. I was hooked.
I raced on the World Cup alpine circuit for 12 years, went to 6 World Championships and raced in the 2014 and 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia and Pyeongchang, South Korea. I have been on two World Cup podiums and have achieved 26 top-ten World Cup results. But I always dreamed of being more than an athlete....
Beginning at age two, I was introduced to the arts through music: I began playing piano. Seven years later I took up the violin, then the guitar, singing all the while. I began making my own paper when I was three, started drawing before I remember, and began taking photographs on my travels when I realized that my experiences in athletics could be explored and expressed through a different medium. These alternative pursuits allowed me to connect to the places I've traveled and the people I've met with a transformed and diverse perspective.
Community is incredibly important to me. As an athlete I volunteered with organizations such as Athletes for Hope, Fast and Female, Boys and Girls Club of Oregon, Share Winter, and Winter 4 Kids. Empowering young people to dream and imagine a better world has always driven me to lead with compassion, determination and strength. I am currently serving on the board of directors for MBSEF, the nonprofit club I grew up racing for. I also serve as an athlete representative on the US Ski and Snowboard's Alpine Sports Committee, the Education and Development Subcommittees as well as the Pacific Northwest Division's Alpine Competition Committee.
I am currently pursuing my Masters in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. I've always been fascinated by the built environment and my travels have taught me the importance of our physical spaces and the impact they can have on bettering human lives. I am deeply passionate about utilizing both my academic knowledge and athletic experiences to help shape a better world for all people.
So...why are you here? What do you want to learn or talk about? How can we make this planet we call home a better place? Please leave feedback below about what you want to see more of on my website....and thanks for following <3
